I'm not entirely sure what the noise was but I was sitting at my desk with my recently built PC turned off and I suddenly hear a loud pop noise. What could this have been? Any ideas? I just built this Computer not too long ago and I'm fairly freaked out something went wrong inside the computer. But like I said it may have been something else though I was only checking my phone with my XBox on while using the phone.

check your capacitors. maybe a faulty one blew up? I had an old MSI board that the capacitors blew up like popcorn and then smoke and fire after.

Certainly sounds like a bad cap. Probably in the power supply, since you mention the computer being off, and the primary side of the power supply is energized as long as the power supply is plugged into the wall. I've had one in a power supply pop just by plugging in the computer once. That pop is very scary when your hand is near the fan grill.

Same thing happened to me turning on my power supply, went off like a firecracker with a red flash. scared me half to death.

Yes they do that, especially if the hardware is brand new. Makes you freak to hell. I mean I could understand something happening to old hardware you had for a while things go wrong and go bad, but when it's a new system things are supposed to be tested properly no?
