I want to boost comcast shitty technicolor tc8305c modem/router with my old dlink dir-655 router. the modem is set up in the dining room and i used a couple long ethernet cables to connect that to the router in my room. my computer is then connected to the dir-655 router.

ever since i got comcast isp i never really bother with the wifi i plugged and play basically. now i want to optimized the usage of the internet with the wireless so i can walk around with my laptop at home with good signal.

how do i go upon setting it up?

You could first of all, check to make sure the router has detachable antennas, if it does replace them both with directional antennas and point towards the client. You can use wifi boosters on the AP to increase signal strength. Use directional antenna on the client side as well. There are too many factors to consider, interference obstacles and range are most common. If the signal is still weak to the back of the house use repeaters in between to extend signal.

The dir-655 have directional antennas and I now pointed all three towards the direction of the modem. The thing is do I connect the wifi with the modem or the dir-655 router? And honestly I am a complete novice at this and don't understand what you are talking about or how to access the modes beside fixing the antennas. the technicolor tc8305c modem/router doesn't have antennas.

what you want to do is disable weak wifi on the comcast modem, connect the comcast modem to your dr-655 using an ethernet cable to the appropriate port. Then setup your dlink router as your main wifi router to maximum performance. You do not point directional antennas to the modem only to the client which is the back of your house you said?

If i set the dlink router as my main wifi will I still get wifi off the comcast modem and how would i do that? My roommate's room is at the front portion of the house so they get very good/excellent signal almost 54.0Mbps all the time, whereas my room is located at the back portion of the house and the signal don't reach very well so I get low signal.

Also I forgot to mention that the dlink router i have is old and used. Meaning it has wep key, 128 hex key, ssid set up and all. When I log into wifi with the preset info on this router I get very good signal 54.0Mbps but I'm using a different SSID and not using the comcast modem SSID connection. Is it ok using it like this or am I suppose to do something to it to make it connect with the comcast modem network? Something that is called bridged? I'm not sure.

I think you are confused. You first need to grasp how wifi works do some research look at some diagrams then implement one of the solutions to your case.
