my choice, you can choose between two laptops:-

1. in this model you can do basic video making and editing, games etc ->

2. if you can spend some extra money you can buy this model -> its having better graphics and o/s win 8.1 included.

software -> if you are in basic video making- windows movie maker itself is a best. to do the work

if you are do it in a professional way then ill recommend you to should choose -> Adobe Premiere Pro .

configuration is depends on how much depth you are in the field of video making and editing.

for a beginner you will need some extra RAM and a decent graphics card is enough.
but for a pro, the budget and the requirement will be different.

I am a beginner.
Thanks for the suggestion
I own an HP right now, facing heating problems on the downside. Can't keep it on any surface as it heats up very very much (indeed).
That's why want to switch over to dell or asus or sony.
Also, i have a strict budget of 40k and i am a beginner, so i think an i5, 4/8 GB of RAM and a decent ddr3 graphics will be enough?

Sony has limited their laptop production few months before so its not safe to buy one.

yes. if you are a beginner you can manage with your required spec.. no problem in it. with in 40000 im not able to get a 8GB with all the required configuration but i recommend you to upgrade a extra 4 GB ram in future if you save some money / if you notice any performance issue, that you can see it in your task manager is you PC is using all 4 GB.

This all the options :-

if you Ok with the 500GB. you can choose this laptop with win 8.1 OS included ->

I would take a laptop with an i5 mobile cpu, 8 gigs or ram, a ssd if you can get one assuming you don't need much storgage and a gt 650m or upwards. I don't know how much this is in pounds but the configuration should be good for a beginner in video editing.
