Hi everyone,

This site has been instrumental in building Titan, my very first PC I ever build myself. The suggestions, reviews, tips and tricks and advises from the experts here turned my first building experience to be a very enjoyable one.

Now I have another builder's itch and some extra fund to spare; so I'm thinking of building Titan 2.0 - Nephilim.

Below is the first blueprint of Nephilim and I would appreciate if you guys can take a look at it, review it, dissect it, and anything that this site has been known for. Be as harsh as possible as without it, I didn't think my Titan would have been the beast she was back then.

Majority of the use for this is for gaming, but I do dabble in occasional video and graphic editing as that's my job.

My sincere gratitude in advance,
-M-

Spending way to much on an i5 rig. Raid 0 the SSD, raid 1 the HDD. :D

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X99-UD5 WIFI EATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard ($346.98 @ Newegg Canada)

My thoughts:
1. With your budget, pick the i7-4790K. The extra $100 buys you a better binned chip with hyperthreading that will run at 4.0-4.4 at stock.
2. Ditch the H100.
I have become a bit jaded on the subject of haswell cooling for overclocking.
How high you can OC is firstly determined by your luck in the bin lottery.
I had high expectations from the Devil's canyon parts and their better thermals.
I found out that the thermals really do not matter unless, perhaps, you are a competitive overclocker.
Haswell runs quite cool, that is, until you raise the voltage past 1.25v or so.
Once you go past 1.3v, then you really do need very good cooling to keep stress loads under say 85c.
But, voltages higher than 1.30 are not a good thing for 24/7 usage.
Even if you can handle the heat, how much do you really need that extra multiplier from say 4.4 to 4.6?
My thought is that it is better to use the exotic cooling funds for a quieter and less expensive air cooler.
Look for noctua or Phanteks with 140mm fans.
3. You are paying a bunch for fancy heat spreaders on the tridentX ram that are totally unnecessary. Moreover, such tall ram sticks will interfere with the better air coolers. Buy the low profile ares version which will perform exactly the same and be cheaper.
4. Good luck on finding GTX980 cards to buy; they are in short supply. If you can, prefer the evga GTX980 superclock with the titan blower cooler. They cool better in a sli configuration.
5. Love the idea of a ssd for the "C" drive. I happen to think Samsung and intel are better quality. The Samsung 850 PRO would be the best.
6. Velociraptor was very good in it's day, but no longer. 10K is good for random access and a "C" drive, but does not translate to faster sequential speeds for bulk storage. Larger hard drives tend to be faster. Look for a WD black 2tb drive.
7. SLI GTX980 needs about 750w. I would not chase platinum or even gold rating except for quiet.
I think a Seasonic X series at 850W would be fine.

Or, the X-1250 would cost less than the corsair.

Seasonic X is tier one quality, Corsair HX is ok at tier 2.

You've spent too much money on the motheboard for a gaming and editing rig. Also, the RAM is too slow and the Core i7-4790K is a better bet for editing, due to the extra threads. Another thing to note is that Velociraptor drive. There's no point in getting it when an equivalent 3TB Caviar Black drive is about as fast. Here is a counter-build -

Much faster RAM, more powerful PSU and is slightly better quality, a better storage drive and a suitable motherboard for the SLI and Core i7-4790K. IMHO, the Maximus VII Hero is a better board, due to the fact that it is perfectly balanced between high quality components, functionality, overclockability and pricing.

Awesome, this is exactly why I love this site so much. Two answers and I've already learned more than I thought on this next build.

Great suggestions guys, thank you so much. I'm not familiar with the A-Data RAM module though; as majority of people, I'm more familiar with Corsair and G-Skill names. The PC part picker does mention something that the RAM voltage is above the suggested one for the CPU, will that be an issue?

Thanks again!

Sorry, life's been busy that I might have neglected this thread a bit. But I like your blueprint, and it definitely helps to plan my build. I'm torn with the case now (I know, I know, they are aesthetic), I haven't found anything that hit me with "oh man I have to have that case" as much as NZXT Switch.

Thanks again guys,
Moon
