Hi people,

I have just purchased a new HDD drive WD HDD 2TB. i already have one old 80GB HDD with Windows 7 installed a in it.

the disk is not recognizable in device manager and disk management . but in bios its detectable

also in BIOS boot menu its shows it as PATA, whereas it is connected via SATA port given below are details as shown in bios

SATA 0 ---(PATA WD20DEZRX)
SATA 1 ---(SATA SAMSUNG HD80G)

whys is it showing it as PATA

SATA 0 ---(PATA WD20DEZRX)
SATA 1 ---(SATA SAMSUNG HD80G)
SATA 2 --- (SATA WD50000)

but still WD20DEZRX not detectable

Hi there.

If it reports in the BIOS, but not in the OS, it's likely that the driver being used by the OS is not compatible with the drive. It's possible that one drive is compatible with AHCI and the other with legacy IDE. When you enalbe AHCI, windows ignores the IDE drive (prob your boot drive), you are essentially trying to boot form your '2nd' drive (no os/boot loader). When you enable IDE, you can boot from the IDE drive, but Windows will ignore the AHCI drive.

So there are few troubleshooting steps you can do - try to connect the drive to another computer and try with different cable. If the issue still remains, go to the motherboard or PC manufacturer and see if there is an updated chipset or hard drive controller driver specifically for Windows 7. Also install firmware updates for the motherboard.

Hope this helps.

Cheers! :)
