I am building a new gaming computer. I want some opinion on what CPU to get since I struggle in that area. Here are my current two picks.
AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vistara 8-Core 4.0GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Desktop Processor FD8350FRHKBOX
Or
AMD A10-7850K Kaveri 12 Compute Cores (4 CPU + 8 GPU) 3.7GHz Socket FM2+ 95W Desktop Processor AMD Radeon R7 series AD785KXBJABOX

If you have any other suggestions that would be great. Or recommendations on a motherboard to match. Thank you for all the help.

Go for the FX series.

Between the two, the 8350, but in the larger scheme of things, an i5 would be better.

If you go with the FX processor you will need a AM3+ board, the A10 uses FM2. But I agree with the post above. An i5 would be better.

If you aren't on a tight Budget, the FX-8350 Is Brilliant. with 8 Cores at 4.0Ghz, 16MB of combined L2 and L3 cache, and the option to overclock, You'll be rocking Games in no time when paired with a R9 Radeon Graphics card. And it's a great deal at $170.

However, If You are on a tight budget, The A10-7850K is also a great choice. At 3.7 Ghz, 4MB of L2 cache, options for overlclocking, and integrated Radeon R7 graphics, It's a good starting point for the budget gamer, and heck, you can upgrade to a dedicated GPU later when you need it. Pair it up with AMD R9 Gamer series RAM at 2400 Mhz and you'll be able to play at 1080p with little to no issues.

Overall, it Depends on your budget, But both the FX-8350 and A10-7850K are really good choices here.

Also, I do have a $500 AMD APU Build for the ITX Platform here, just to show how affordable an A10-7850K Build can be:

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help. I'm leaning towards the FX but an i5 is definitely a possibility I will have to look into. What are some i5 recommendations. I want a solid starting part for my computer with room for future upgrades. For the motherboard CPU combo I'm looking to be around 300 dollars give or take.

I'm in the UK, so I can't help much with prices and retailers, but an i5 4670K and Z97 motherboard should be close to your $300 budget. This gives you excellent single and multi-threaded performance with overclocking capability.

The awkward part is that Broadwell (Intel's new 14nm processors) is supposedly due for release soon, and if I were in your position, I'd wait for that. Apparently, a "9" series motherboard, such as a Z97 will be compatible with Broadwell processors, but there's no official word from Intel about this.

The FX-8350 is a fine processor, but the underlying architecture is old. This is reflected in the high TDP and rather average single-threaded performance. Even the new 8370 is little more than a rebadged 8350. There's the 8370e as well, but this is just an 8350 with a lower TDP and clock speed.

I don't want to sound like I'm hating on AMD, and Intel are just as bad at rebadging processors (2500K and 2550K, anyone?), but AMD just haven't upped their game in the same way as Intel. For $300, an i5 is an easy recommendation.
