I have 2 computers. I bought new guts for CPU #1, and took the "old" guts and put them into #2. CPU #1 is running with its new parts. CPU #2 has the mb and psu from the first computer, so the power is the same, also same RAM. But when it powers up, the monitor stays black. I have a VGA and a DVI monitor hooked to the mb, and all I get from the DVI is "no cable connected". I've unhooked all the drives, and pulled out the RAM, even removed the battery and cable to reset the BIOS. Still, nothing. I don't even get beeps to detect errors, such as no RAM. Also, it will only power down about half of all attempts (it seems the longer its ON, the more able it is to power down via the power button).

I bought a new SSD to help with the installation, but I can't even get to the BIOS via F2 or F10 to configure anything. The screen stays black. Not even a cursor. When the mb was in CPU #1, there was a PCIe graphics card. There is no graphics card on the mb now. The monitors are plugged into the onboard monitor connectors. Would that make a difference? It doesn't explain why I can't get into the BIOS.

I've upgraded computers before (no formal training), but never had this problem. I've been careful of static buildup during installation, so I wouldn't think I've fried anything. The mb/RAM/PSU and monitor are about 5 years old.

Hello... please list the brand/model # of the parts in the troubled Unit.
1) Make sure your Monitor is set for the type of cable connected to it.

It's custom-built... Intel DG41TY motherboard... Intel P4 3.0 GHz processor... 4 GB Kingston RAM (2x2)... how do I set the monitor for the type of cable connected to it? Wouldn't that be in the BIOS? Is the mb looking for the graphics card installed when it was in the first CPU?

Hello... Push the proper Buttons, on your Monitor, to get the "Menu screen" of your monitor. You can set it to the proper connector used.

Thanks. I'm giving it a shot now.

No luck. The VGA is a Dell and when I press the menu button, I get "1. Analog Input In Power Save Mode. Press Computer Button or any key on keyboard or move mouse", of which nothing is responding. I've pressed all the buttons and that's all it will do. The DVI monitor is a Sceptre, and the menu button does less then the Dell.
