I am running a xeon 1620 right now and am searching ebay for nicer processors. I have found a xeon Q19D and am wondering if it would be compatible. I have seen on other sites that some people had luck with getting it working on other boards, but support is touchy.

Not listed on Ark.intel, is that a internal part number from an OEM? I see that it appears to be an sandy-bridge 8-core with a low frequency, wouldn't make a very good gaming processor, but if you have a lot of threaded applications it would be useful. But it should work in any LGA2011 board. (Not listed by ASUS as supported though)

Yeah I know this; but one of my friends was able to obtain a different es xeon and overclock it to 4.5ghz and it is great at gaming. I am just wondering if the two components are compatible. It looks like I am just going to have to try it.

No wonder you can't find it on the Intel site - it's an engineering sample.
By all accounts it is very similar to your 1620, except for a 1.6GHz stock clock speed. I reckon then that it should work with the board you have your 1620 on now.
I'd be interested in how far you'll be able to o/clock this chip.
Lemme know, if you do decide to take it and go ahead.

Yeah similar to the 1620 except double the cores. Well I should know by next week

No it didn't end up working. It turns out the memory controller on the chip was broken. I returned it. But the downgrade to ROM bios was necessary and we did get it to post

well i have 3 motherboards a msi big bang 2, an asus rampage formula 4, and a asus p9x79-e ws and i just ordered a Q19D.
ill let you know how it goes, your friend was able to overclock this cpu???
i would assume this isnt possible or maybe he simply got extremely luck and reciefved an unlocked Q19D, they could have done Q19D with additional tests for max freq and others for simple stability tests at set 1.6ghz

Cool, thanks for the feedback
