Hi

I need to upgrade my rig, which I use exclusively for photo and video editting.

So which combination would give better performance:

1. Intel 5960X (8 core) with 32GB of my old XMS3 memory, or
2. Intel 5930K (6 core) with 32Gb of new Corsair 2133 Mhz CL9 memory

Of course, the best option would be:
3. Intel 5960X (8 core) with 32Gb of new Corsair 2133 Mhz CL9 memory
- but my budge won't extend to that.

I'm also upgrading my mobo to an ASRock Fatal1ty X99M KILLER, because I need the mictro ATX form factor.

I'd like to see explanations with your answers as well please.

Thanks!

Your old memory won't work, X99 is DDR4 only. So #2 is the only build that works.

You'll need DDR4 RAM with X99, so I think you can cross off option 1.

i7 5930K is only 20% slower than i7 5960X in multi core test but costs 2x less . Moreover , i7 5960X is clocked low thus in games i7 4690K 4.0GHz/4.4GHz beats i7 5960X . i am for i7 5930K it has 40 lanes and supports x16/x16 SLI/Crossfire .
