I have a Lenovo h430 budget desktop with a i3-2120 processor. Can I replace the processor with an i7-3570? What do I need to do beyond that (and is it a bad idea for some reason I can't think of?)

I'm running quickbooks and hosting shared access for another PC and it just seems to run slow. I moved the file to an SSD already but still looking for more performance. Thinking moving from a dual core i3 to a quad core is a good idea.

Thanks,
Jeff

I can't see a flaw in your reasoning. Perhaps check the Power supply and let us know the wattage and whether it has a 4-pin (or better) CPU connector to the motherboard?

Make sure the current CPU is LGA-socket, and not BGA (soldered to the motherboard).

Finally, the i7 may be overkill and you'll probably be equally well off (and have about US$100 in your pocket) by choocing the i5-3750 (or maybe the processor named in your post was a typo, since there are no i7-models with that numbering, they are i7-3770).

I think that you meant, i5 3570. But hey, I knew what you meant, and that is all that matters.
