Been having a disagreement with someone over licensing, so just wanted to get another perspective.......

On our LAN we have about 90 clients, with the majority running Office 2010. Some are 2007 still, and a couple on 2013. Some PCs have both Office 2007 & 2010 installed so they can carry on running some old Access DBs.

The Active Directory has about 120 users (excluding built-in accounts) and about 90 client computers.
We also have about 30 EPOS (tills) but these are in their own Workgroup, rather than the domain. These are in a separate VLAN.

Our VLSC shows 90 User CALs, 90 Exchange CALs and 15x Office 2013.

1) Do the workgroup tills need a CAL? I didn't think so, as they aren't using any AD services, and it's essentially no different to someone using their laptop on guest wi-fi.

2) PCs that have more than one version of Office on, do they only require one Office license or two? I've been told they need 2, but I don't agree.

3) In AD, do any additionally created IT user accounts need a user CAL? Ie accounts created for backups, or scanning etc. My understanding is that all accounts require a CAL, except the few existing Microsoft accounts that are there after initial AD setup.

Thanks,

1) A computer not using any server functions, not hooked up to domain do not require a cal.

2) Each installation of office requires its own license

3) This depends on if you use USER cals or DEVICE cals. Since you are using USER cals then you need a cal for every user outside of the initial microsft ones.
