Hi everyone!

Just finished building my first PC. Everything seems to work. The optical drive opens up when I press the button. All the fans are spinning, all lights burning.

However, when I start up and enter BIOS, it doesn't recognize my hardware (optical drive and harddisc) so I can't tell it to read the windows cd in my drive.

Please help. Do bear in mind I am 100% noob and don't know all the terms. Any help is great!

PARTS:
Case = cooler k-380
HDD = seagate 1 TB
Motherboard: ASUS B85M-G
Processor: Intel i5 4460
Graphic card: GTX 760
Optical drive: standard samsung

Edit:
I dont think the optical drive and HDD are connected to the motherboard, only to the Power Supply Unit. Is this supposed to be like that? I dont think I had any cables to connect them (unless they were the ones inside of the case already).

Solution
Hi

Most likely misTakes in assembly
You need a sata data cable and sata power cable for each sata device

If there are two sata controllers one may be disabled by default
On some motherboard and bios individual sata ports can be disabled

Bootable hard drive usually goes into lowest numbered sata port

Reset CMOS using jumper
(With power disconnected to prevent damage)
Then go into bios and load defaults

Does options to show startup of bios self test or a picture or logo?
Set it to show self test so hard drive and DVD drive and any plugged in usb device should be detected and shown

Best of luck

I didnt find any data cables in my packages. At least I dont think so. Are they supposed to come with the HDD and Optical Drive?

Right now I only have power cables connected to them, and they aren't connected to the motherboard. Should they be?

Yes, they should be connected via SATA cables to the SATA ports on the motherboard. Usually motherboards have two SATA cables in the cables with the motherboard.

Thanks for your answer.

I have an Asus B85M-G motherboard. You say the cables should come with the MOTHERBOARD and not the Harddrive and Optical drive?

Either way, I really can't find it. Any way you can check if cables should come with this motherboard, or a way for me to find it?
