I have an i5 4590 (non k) and I was wondering if this is okay... I'm not going to be overclocking and I'm only considering this because I can get one for under $200. Help please if it seems unsafe I would only be using the power supplies for 3-4 weeks tops after my purchase.

You'll need at least 600w in my opinion, that's a high end GPU

the CX Corsair series are budget PSUs, s if you have a bit more money to spend then try to get a certified Antec 600w psu or a different Corsair series...

Minimum i would go for is 550 watt but if the PSU is from good maker and you dont OC anything then 500 watt will do the job but it would be very tight and while running graphic intensive game if you see that the PC is shutting down all of a sudden like a power off then the PSU is not providing enough power for the system.

The R9 280X will use about 250 Watts running 100% with the quality of the CX not really something I would try.
If you set all your game settings to low so it don't push the card you could get by for a few weeks.

Quote:
GPU power consumption = ~ 243 Watts

This is Guru3D's generic power supply recommendation for the R7 and R9 series:

AMD R9 280X - On your average system the card requires you to have a 550 Watt power supply unit.
AMD R9 280X Crossfire - On your average system the cards require you to have a 750 Watt power supply unit as minimum.

If you are going to overclock GPU or processor, then we do recommend you purchase something with some more stamina.

I would not use a CX PSU oin a gaming Box.

No way dude, mine eats 592W power usage at 80% load, and I've got an economical server processor.

A single 280X will not use that much with your build you need to recheck your numbers.
I run 2x 6970's overclocked with a 4.8 overclock on my i5 2500K and just hit 700 during a full system stress test.

That is too much the card has a max TDP of 250 watt and while gaming it can reach upto 220 watt.

Not a great idea to use a non Haswell compatible power supply that is also poor quality with nice components.
