I'm about to purchase a CPU for my first rig build. I've been researching the past week and I've initially had my heart set on the i5-4670k. From what I've realized is, the significance of this CPU is that its multiplier is unlocked for OCing. To be honest, I had/have no intention of OCing. Upon further research, I stumbled upon the i5-4590. Same architecture, and virtually the same benchmarks. My biggest intention is playing PC games with the highest possible graphics setting. That being said, should I snag the 4590 being the performance is so similar or should I splurge an extra $50 bucks and get the 4670k?

Edit: don't know if its worth mentioning but my MOBO is a Gigabyte GA-Z97x

Not overclocking then get the non-k i5..

Spend the bulk of your budget on the Gpu
Also a decent power supply

You dont need to overclock people just do it for the heck of it. You will still get a strong performance from it.

I5 4690 is haswell refresh processor wich cannot be overclocked and I5 4670k is a haswel processor with OC capabilities.

If you have no intention of OC then definitely go for I5 4690 it will support any card and give you maximum performance depending on the card.
