Hello
I am currently running an AMD A6 and supported motherboard, I am going to be buying a Asus M5A78L-M and an AMD FX 8350, would you recommend I did a fresh reinstall of my OS or would i be alright just plugging the existing hard drive in and installing all the required drivers ?

Thanks
Hamish :-)

Get an ASUS 970 evo r2.0 motherboard. It is more suited for a FX 83** cpus.
I would advise you not to use Asus M5A78L-M with a FX 83**. You want a 6+2 power phase design on the motherboard with heatsinks on the VRM.

If you have Window 7, you can try to phone up Microsoft and see if they give you a new key.
If you have Window 8 or 8.1, you can reinstall your OS and reuse the license. You may need to reactivate using Microsoft automated service.

It is best to reinstall OS when changing motherboards.

This is the recommended procedure as the new motherbd will likely use completely different drivers and the existing install will often just crash if you try to use it. Sometime it works thou so if you have the extra time then you really dont have anything to lose trying it IMO.

You could try booting.
If it does, installing the new chipset drivers would be all you need to do.
If you can't boot, you are facing a clean reinstall.

And... if your windows is 7 oem, you may get a hassle with Microsoft, though they will usually let you reactivate.

Why are you looking at a FX-8350?
If you are planning on overclocking, I think you need a better chipset motherboard.
FX is probably right for rendering and other multithreaded apps.
But, the slow cores are not so good for games which only use 2-3.
Intel prevails there.
