Hi all,

I've been having an issue with my network dropping randomly and after trying everything i can possibly think of to fix this, i've come up with an idea that I wanted to run past you guys to see if it would work.

I have a ethernet connection on the motherboard and a spare network card...
If I installed the 2nd network card and ran a cable to each connection from a single hub that is connected to my router, would my internet connection kick in from 2nd card if the first went down? Like a back up connection??

Getting sick of constantly disabling/enabling my network card to bring my network back up again, and after trying:

New Drivers
New Card
New Cables
New Powerline Adapters
Virus Scan,
Malware Scan,
New Network settings (Static IP, New DNS).

..Well lets just say i'm running out of ideas and I can't use WIFI on my pc as there net signal issues with my wireless keyboard and mouse, plus I don't like the speed loss.

So how does the backup connection sound?

it depends on if your "internet" or "network" is going out. if you internet is going on on one nic card then you wouldnt look connection to the network, because it would still have a solid connection to the router so it would not drop the connection entirely. you would have to lose connection to the router entirely for it to switch over to the other connection.

IF (big if) you used a managed switch, and created LAG or LACP groups to aggregate you connection you might get it to work. BUT, you could waste a lot of time. Link failover is a non-trivial problem.
