That's pretty good. PC plus Router and Monitor for 2000 quid.

1800 quid -
i7 4790k, gtx980, crappy power supply, so so motherboard, 16gb 1600 ram (only need 8gb), Windows, DVD, Case

Build is pretty good. For current gaming an i7 and 16gb of ram does not help you over an i5 and 8gb or ram, now in another year or two that might be different.

Only other thing to note is that wifi is not good for gaming. The best option is to use wired ethernet and if that is not an option then powerline networking is the next best option. For gaming purposes low latency (delay) is more important then mbps. Think of latency as your speed, and mbps as how much data it can carry in a single trip. Think of it like this, for gaming it is like you need to transport a couple bags of groceries as fast as possible so you would need a sports car, where as for something like streaming high res tv or transfering files you want the truck that can tow a 20ft trailer.
