So basically I've never used this site, so I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section or anything. I've bought a Windows 8 HP Pavilion 15-p047na under the assumption that it wouldn't be a problem to downgrade to Windows 7. But after reading a few articles, I'm now quite worried that this won't be the case and that my laptop (which is coming tomorrow) may not be able to run Windows 7. Could you, if possible tell me if I am able to install Win 7 on this laptop?

Any answer is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Yes, you can. Just make a recovery dvd before changing your OS.

I also did that with my laptop.

Why downgrade? Windows 8 runs great, is fast, uses little resources and if you want the "metro" interface, install classic shell. It gives you back a full start button, desktop, etc and it's free.

Just because you did on your laptop, doesn't mean every laptop out there can handle it. It comes down mostly to drivers. If no drivers exist for your hardware for Windows 7, you are out of luck, period.

Hey getochkn, I guess I'm just one of the people who never got over Windows 7 lol, I've tried and tried again to use Windows 8 but to no avail, if however I do have to use it, I'll definitely take your advice on that classic shell.

Are there any sites you could suggest that I can check if drivers are available for this model?

So I found that there are drivers for this exact model on the HP website for Windows 7 64bit. Is this the end of my worries then?

Well...you have to then spend the money to replace a perfectly good OS....

Whatever facility HP gives to make a Recovery disk of the original Win8 OS...do that beforehand, just in case things go sideways.

I've run 8 since it came out and being using Classic Shell and haven't seen the Metro interface in over a year.

And with 8.1, boot directly into the desktop...

Windows 8/8.1 is not very useful for work. Win 7 is (at least for me) better for that. Win 8 UI is extremely inefficient.

Just for entertainment, Win 8 is OK.

Then run classic shell and never see the UI again.
