Just Bought a MSI 990FXA-GD65, what to expect...

So ive just gotten the MSI 990FXA-GD65 off ebay for £50 and the seller has said its fully working and everything is as its meant to be, fingers crossed it gets here in the same way...
I basically bought it because everyone on here tells me my VRM cooler is crap and i cant overclock, which is what i want to do... So i have an amd 8320 and i have a corsair H100 cooler... so what can i expect to get from this board?
Also i may possibly decide to go crossfire at Christmas so what difference would the 8x slot have on things? I imagine, barely anything at all?
So all in all, what can i expect to get overclocking wise, and will this board be better than my current ASRock Extreme3 990FX?
That is my main question right there...

I don't have the answer to all your questions but I can tell you not to worry about the X8 PCI-e port, you will not lose any performance.

VRM cooling is an issue on any FX board and OCing. The chips draw a lot of power. Using an all-in-one water cooler, while cools the CPU nice and chilly, doesn't do anything for the VRM's and in some ways is worse than a air cooler. Air coolers have a big block of copper and fans right near the VRM's and helps cool them a bit.

I could probably hit higher with my chip, but my VRM's just get too toasty too fast. I've added all kinds of fans blowing on them, helps a bit, but not a lot. My AIO cooler keeps my CPU cool, but the socket temp because of the heat the VRM sends, gets too hot. The only real way to keep them nice and chilly is a full water loop.

That said, you should still be able to hit 4.0 to 4.3 no problem. Try playing with your rear fan to see if it works better as an exhaust or intake and moving cool air and removing hot air from the VRM's and go from there.

So do you personally think the MSI 990FXA-GD65 is an upgrade from my Extreme3?

I can tell you the G46 was maybe the worst 990 board ever made. The vrm's had a real documented history of catching fire. The G80 on the other hand is a good board. Some people I respect have put 9590's in them and gotten goode results. I would imagine the GD65 would fall somewhere in the middle.

Do what I do , mount some fans to cool the VRMS. i HAVE A 970 G46 THAT IS CRAP , BUT i KEEP 2 FANS COOLING THE VRM so far no problem with my OC FX 8350 @4.4 , your board is a good board with decent VRM but I'd still put some fans on it

not bad, where would i tie them onto? and would i just need to cool the things to the left of the cpu?
