Hello,
I watched a video and noticed I put to much thermal compound so I took it off with a paper towel (without using alcohol). I put the new thermal compound the right way(pea). I thought this would improve performance but I ended up by getting 12 degres more( 26 to 45) when I wasn't doing anything intensive. I was wondering is cleaning with alcohol was really that important or if I was doing anything wrong.
Thank you

Cpu: 4790k
Cooler: h80i
Motherboard: asus z97-a
Gpu: gtx 980

46 c is not that hot , what are ambient temps ? Maybe it had to much previously and was not reporting correct temp ?

If you don't use alcohol and a lint free cloth, then it isn't clean and it will run hotter than you'd like. Clean it properly and the heat issue should be resolved.
