This rig would strictly be for gaming purposes only.
I don't know anything about overclocking...So I'd like to play it safe in that aspect.
I went over some of the parts that Nuckles suggested and I like how it saved me $100 bucks but some stuff is out of stock.
I wouldn't mind downgrading to i5, it'll save me another cool hundred bucks. I appreciate the feedback by the way...I'm totally lost and none of my friends are very good with computers. I was going to buy a prebuilt pc from digital storm but if I can save cash by building my own ( the lights are pretty but I really dont care for those kind of bells and whistles ) then I'm all for it.
Edit: I am kind of keeping the future in mind, I want a good set up to where I won't miss out playing some of the newer releases on Ultra as well as some games in the future...I basically want to rest assured that I'll be good on upgrading for some time.

So better power supply, i5, and perhaps a 970 are the only changes you guys recommend?
Any more opinions would be greatly appreciated..I'm at a huge loss here and I want to make sure I'm purchasing the appropriate components that would all be compatible with eachother in addition to meeting my personal requirements.

This looks great, and it's nearly $700 less than what I thought I'd have to spend! Now would I be able to stick with this build for awhile without having to worry about an upgrade? Again, I can't thank you guys enough for givin' me some direction here...I've always assumed I wouldn't be able to get anything worthwhile without atleast spending $2,000.

The gtx 970 is worse than the gtx 980, but is sufficient for playing games for at least 1-3 years at ultra maxed out settings. If you want 5+ years of future proofing, go with the gtx 980. The i5 4690k is probably going to be excellent for around 3-4 years, by then games will use more cores most likely.

So 1-3 for a 970 but 980 5+? Lmao. You will be fine at ultra for 3 years. Not 1-3. 3. And heaven forbid that you drop to high settings. Do not get the build legend made. That thing is sketchy

Ignore what PCpartpicker says about the compatibility issues. It is completely wrong. I have a Phantom 410 sitting right beside and it has 400mm+ of GPU length. If you remove the drive bays it leave you with 2 on the bottom. 1 for ssd 1 for hdd. Then your GPU can have length for days..

Lol I don't know what may happen in a year, maybe a new gaming engine may get miraculously developed and we may need more performance than everyone thought? Small chance of that happening but may as well be prepared xD
Totally agree with you about iamlegend's build, in other posts he keeps using AMD parts, not sure why... He always suggests AMD ram and the ssd, even when there are much better options which are cheaper and better. Your build is really good and I love the case you chose, I may just get it for myself, looks awesome.

Fair enough about the performance in a year. I don't think there is a worse SSD maker than AMD now that I think about it.

I'm not even sure why AMD went in the SSD market now that I think about it, they are getting stiff enough competition from Nvidia in the GPU wars, and AMD has to struggle to release a card to match just the gtx 970, not even talking about the gtx 980 (This is talking about a reasonable budget, not like the r9 295x2 or the titan).

Donkey. Like you said. i7 is unnecessary at the moment. What about the future? 980 is unnecessary too if we are going to talk about what all games require right now. There I disagree to a certain extent. No high level GPU is necessary, but if you want to play full frontal BF4 and/or use three monitors, (which are merely desirable rather than necessary), then with some titles, even the 980 is insufficient today.
Games using four cores and needing more are rare to nonexistant.
Besides, there is a philosophical issue. I cannot predict the future, but I know that the rate of change is fast and it is driven, in part, by popularity (what games people actually play). Since I cannot foresee, I plan to adapt, so build/buy machines with a relatively close horizon, planning to replace as needed. If multi-threading becomes a lot more common, the answer in the next generation may be Xeons combined with new GPUs or AMD may emerge from their slumber with a new-generation Phenom.equivalent.

Once again, thanks for the feeback fellas, I was worried my topic was going to be drowned out, you guys have been very helpful so far.
To be more specific, I plan on only using one card, one monitor, and I want the security of not having to upgrade for awhile. 5 years of ultra settings sounds great.
From what I've been getting from you guys so far, I'm leaning more towards the 980, but sticking with the i5. The builds you guys are giving look great and all but since I'm not too familiar with the technical aspects I'm merely boiling it down to aesthetics and pricing...However performance is my top priority. So would you all suggest I run MasterDells build and just switch out the GPU for a 980? If so what brand card should I buy, and does it really matter? Once again I appreciate the responses, you guys have been a great help.
Edit: I'm also looking for a more plain, black case...With decent size and good airflow.
