Does anyone know if you still need to run the firmware fix Samsung just released, if you ran it once, then re-formatted your HDD?

Just wondering if the fix is permanent or temporary, and needs to be reapplied after a reformat.

Thanks for any help.

It is a permanent firmware update. I just applied it to my drives.

Thanks for the reply. I'm mostly concerned about this "Performance Restoration" Samsung applies with their new fix. It just seem that needs to be done after every reformat. It would be great if someone has an official answer if that still needs to be done after a reformat.

A firmware update is similar to updating the BIOS on your motherboard. It "reprograms" a chip on your Samsung 840 EVO to perform new instructions. It only needs to be applied once.

The performance restoration software that was included in this "update" fixes current issues on the drive. The problem was data that was written and not rewritten over a long period of time. The restoration software scans for these areas, and reads then writes the data back to the drive. The firmware update will keep the drive refreshed.

Great, I was just unsure if this fix was permanent or needs reapplying after every reformat.

Thanks again for your time.
