Corsair CX 600 Question (Very weird issue I've had)

So, a year ago i bought a Corsair CX 600 power supply from amazon, and a EVGA GTX 660 from newegg. I installed them both myself, and my computer has worked flawlessly for a year. Yesterday while i was on skype, my monitor suddenly lost signal, and my computer started making a loud sound (sounded like a fan running really really fast/hard or whatever).

So i quickly held down the power button to turn it off and once it was off, i opened it up and had a look inside. Smelled like smoke, couldn't tell if it was coming from the graphics card or the PSU. I'm not really that tech savy haha. Anyway, 5 mins later i tried turning it back on, same noise. No display. So i plugged the VGA cable into the MOBO instead of the GPU and sure enough, I've got my display working. Turned it off, opened it up again, took the graphics card out and noticed it was really dusty around the PCI port and stuff, so i went out and bought some multi purpose duster that i read was good to use to clean out the inside of a computer. I just blasted the fans and the port with it. From a distance, held it upright, I followed all the instructions on the can.

Anyway, after that when i closed it up and tried turning it back on, i got nothing. The only thing was that when the power cord was plugged in and the PSU was flipped on, all the fans would spin at the same time for about a second each, and then stop. Then nothing for a few seconds, then it would do it again. On loop. This was happening without me pushing the power button, the power button would do nothing! I thought the mobo was fried. I took it to best buy and the said the same thing. So, pissed off and upset (I dont really have the money to spend on a new motherboard and installing it, since i have NO clue how to install one) I came home and tried one last thing. Putting an old PSU in. Its a 450w one, so i had to also put my old AMD HD 7770 instead of the GTX 660.

And sure enough the damn thing works. I don't really understand how this problem started with just the display not coming on. So i guess my big question is, why on earth is my Corsair PSU already gone bad in a year? I bought that one because I thought research had told me they were the good brand to buy. Will I have any luck trying to get Amazon (obviously not) or Corsair to replace it? I appreciate any help you guys can give me. Thank you so much.

Ahhhh. I had no idea, I guess I should have looked into that before buying it. So one of those only lasting a year is a possibility? I guess I won't have any luck getting a replacement out of them.

Hahaha great. Well I guess it makes sense then. The sad thing is that on my very limited budget I probably won't be able to get one that's much better. agggggh. Thank you! I still don't get why it seemed like it was the GPU at first. I hope it's okay.
