Hi everyone! I initially decided on getting the ASUS VG248QE for my computer. However, I felt unsure because I really enjoy 27 in. monitors over 24 inch monitors. I read and researched, read and researched, and only led myself into more confusion. I want a 27 inch 1440p monitor that has a high refresh rate and relatively low response time. I am confused about whether I want IPS or not. I am trying to spend 800 dollars or less on this monitor. I found the ROG SWIFT PG278Q, but there seems to be a lot of conflicting feelings on the net about it (not to mention it's TM, and lots of people are saying IPS is better.)

Thank you so much everyone!

What do you want to mainly use the monitor for? Gaming, graphic art, movies, what?

Mainly for very high end gaming, but it is possible I will be dabbling in graphic art and 3D modeling. My focus are the games though!

Then you don't really need an IPS as those are primarily for people needing extremely accurate color reproduction. Gaming isn't necessarily an arena that cares if Fuchsia is a half shade different or not.

For gaming, resolution and response time are your main concerns with everything else coming after that.

Thank you, that feels right to me. Do you know of any cheaper solutions like ROG SWIFT PG278Q? I am doing some research now, but it is very convoluted.

If you don't have to have 1440 specifically, I'd go with this. If I had 600-800 dollars to spend on a monitor, it would be this one, hands down. Of course, I don't right now, so my 24" HannsG, 27" ASUS VE278H and 56" Panasonic HD TV are my setup. This is a very good monitor though with great reviews and is about 200 bucks below your budget limit. It might not be exactly what you're looking for as far as specs go, but in my opinion it's a better unit than the ROG that's much more expensive and has conflicting reviews.

Oh, wow! That looks awesome! Do you think the 60hz refresh rate will have a major effect on the games I play? I do sometimes play competitive online games.

If you read ssddx's comments on the following thread, and consider that as per the above Tom's article explaining why this TN panel doesn't have the same issues that have plagued most of them, you'll see that 120hz or higher is probably not absolutely essential for gaming. What is your system GPU configuration like? System specs?

It seems the only possible problem I see with that monitor is the fact that they say, on paper anyhow, that if the FPS of the system is capable of exceeding the refresh rate, it's possible to have some issues with screen tearing. So if the 970 exceeds 60fps on your chosen quality setting it might be an issue. I doubt that will happen if you have all the ultra or even probably all the high settings enabled, but I guess it could theoretically.

However, I'm not seeing too many 27" monitors with 120hz refresh rates and resolutions higher than 1080 except the ROG. They mostly have 1080 resolutions. I'm looking further into it in case there is a better option, but I think the one I listed would still be a very good choice.

There just aren't any yet even at different screen sizes unless maybe you get into some exotics that are going to run way, way more. Looks like it's the ROG or that monitor. Exactly what you want or the best bang for the buck.

Thank you so much darkbreeze! I will deliberate for a while...when I do decide, I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks a lot brother!

It's no problem My pleasure. Please do let me know what you decide, I may be looking to add another display before long and it will need to be significantly better than what I've got now. I'm really hoping some additional models of 27" 120hz ultra-high def monitors begin hitting the market soon. Not only would it increase options but probably also drive prices down.

Good luck to you with whichever way you go.

After literally hours of deliberation and reading, I have decided on the monitor you suggested. Since I am not purchasing my build for another month or so, if a new model comes out (I read somewhere that they are releasing a similar model with G-Sync sometime soon....) I will get that one instead. -wipes sweat off forehead- Looks like I'll have to add another GTX-970 for SLI if I want to run it well though! :D

Try it as is first, see how it does. It might be a non-issue. Then add another if you need to.
