intermitent connectivity problems

Strange internet connection problem.
For the last week been having problems with intermittent internet connection on all my PC and laptops. I thought it was my router so I switched it out with a new one and the problem persisted. After re-connecting my old router, I was able to get online. Then 2 days later I was unable to get on the internet, so I switched my cable modem with a new one and the connection problem continued. I reconnected my old modem and was able to get an internet connection. Am wary the problem wil re-occur and cannot figure what the root of the problem is. Anyone venture to guess?

Who is you ISP, what is the make/model of the cable modem and router - and what adapter are you using to connect the PC & Laptops?

Adapter? not sure what you mean but I,m using wireless. I tried connecting directly to modem an router but that did not solve the problem. I'm using a motorola SB6121 modem and Cisco E1000 router

When you "lose the connection", can you still see the other computers on the network?

When the connectivity goes out, have you tried rebooting the modem?

Trying to track down if this is a problem with Comcast or your internal network....

have done the reboot with no success....i will check to see if I can see the other computers on the network when the connectivity goes out again...
what will it mean if I can see or not see the other PC
I appreciate your help!!

You should be able to ping the router and the other computers on the network. When you ping a website (i.e. www.tomshardware.com), it should resolve in 20ms - 100ms (sometimes a big longer). On your local network, pinging the router or another computer should be 1ms - 5ms - sometimes up to 10ms.

If you can't see the internet, but can see the other computers, it is a problem from the router to the cable modem or the cable modem to the ISP. I have had flaky connections with my ISP - takes several trips out sometimes for them to fix it - but you want to make sure it is their problem - and not yours.
