What is microsoft shadow play and do I need it in my startup folder?

No, not if you don't use it. Go to programs in control panel and uninstall it.

Great thanks. I'm not sure what it is, but something to do with games, so I can't see ever needing it.

Thanks, I thought it was, but having it show up as a microsoft program threw me off as I only see it listed on google as from nvidia

I have no idea how it got the name Microsoft Shadow Play. That's one I never heard of.

In my startup it shows program as "Shadow Play" and publisher as "Microsoft". That's what confused me.

nvspcap.dll and nvspcap64.dll should be signed with a Nvidia certificate.
rundll32.exe is signed with Microsoft's certificate.
