So I bought a new mother board and cpu, msi h97 and i5 4690 respectively and the machine boots but I can't start windows. So when my machine starts to load windows I get a blue screen of death. The stop code is 0x0000007b. Microsoft says the solution is to go into the registry which I can't do. The odd thing is, I can start Ubuntu without any trouble. Can anyone give me advice as to how to fix this? Oh one more thing, my ram wasn't on the list of compatible memory for the new mobo. Is my problem something only going out and buying new ram can fix?

Was this originally built with a dual boot, or did you only use Ubuntu after you could not boot Windows?

Sounds like your bootloader or Windows drivers are not dealing with the new parts. Back up any data on the Ubuntu partition and then do a repair installation of Windows 7, which should save your data and programs. HERE is a good guide to do the repair install. You will need to do the Windows updates again though.

Then you will have to repair your bootloader to recover your Ubuntu partition, or simply reinstall it.

If a repair install failed, then not much left to do but a disk clean using dispart commands and then doing a clean reinstall.

Will the machine boot from your Windows install disk?

I bought my pc so I don't have a windows disk deciding how I can easilly access a computer so I can download a program that can fix my boot loader.

Since it is Windows 7 you can download a legitimate ISO image from the online Microsoft authorized distributor at no cost: Digital River, and burn to a DVD. Just be sure to download the same version as you current use, then use your key from the sticker to activate after working again.

Then you can actually try a repair install using information from the link above -- you MUST have a full install disk to do a repair install.
