Wired internet connection keeps dropping when starting games

My wired internet connection on my computer keeps dropping every time I try to play a game that has some kind of online functionality. Once I quit the game, the internet reconnects after about half a minute.

The problem doesn't occur when I use WiFi. I've tried hard-resetting my router, updated the ethernet drivers and motherboard BIOS, and I've tried a different cable. I've also done a system restore to no avail.

The internet using the ethernet cable works perfectly otherwise, only disconnects when I start playing games (with online features).

The motherboard I'm plugging the cable into is an Asus p8z77-v, ethernet adapter is Intel 82579V.

Please help!

there a known bug with asus mb and the intel chipset you have. it the intel network protection software that installed itself as part of the network drivers. use msconfig and turn off anything that says intel and see if your game runs fine or try running the game in safe mode. if the game runs fine look under add/remove programs and remove intel network extra. if the network drivers gets removed rerun the intel installer but do custom install and driver only.

Hello! Sorry for the incredibly late reply. I'm not a big forum user and I just got an email telling me that my question's been solved! Since the problem, I've bought a PCI ethernet card, which has been working fine. That said, I'll try your solution when I get the chance and let you know how it goes. I prefer things on the MB working as they should if possible!

Thanks again,
