Hey everyone i was hoping i could get some help on what i should keep or change on this build.

Intel 4790k
Asus maximus hero vii
evga gtx 780ti superclocked
H100i
seasonic x series 850w
nzxt phantom 820

i know the case is kinda of over kill but i already have it because i got it as a gift from a friend
also i cannot figure out what ram i should be looking at
i was thinking of getting the g.skill trident x's but i don't know which ones exactly so any advice would be much appreciated!

would i also be better off getting an even better graphics card? or should i just stick with the 780?

You should get a 970(2 if under your budget) instead of 780ti. And the G.SKILL Trident is fine. Whats your budget?

Ok, so here goes:
Get the new GTX 980 if you can. It should even be cheaper than the 780ti, and stronger.
Regarding the RAM, 8 Gb (2x4Gb) is enough for gaming, but if you can and want to get more, just get 16 Gb (2x8Gb) now for some future proofing. Also, look for speeds of 1600Hz and higher.

The rest of the build looks great!

What cooling are you planning? Are you planning to overclock?

i am going to over clock but later on
right now i just need to get the rig running
for the cooling I'm gonna replace the fans for more performance and a H100i
was thinking of getting noctua fans but i can't get over their colour

OK. At the moment, and as long as stocks last, the 780ti is arguably a better deal than the GTX980. It has higher power requirements, but it is $100 or so cheaper and just as stout as it ever was. It is going out the door, but that's often the time to get a real bargain and it is known, proven technology.

If you are going to overclock make sure that you get appropriate RAM. I also think that you should be using a SSD for operating system and applications.
I'm fine with the rest, although I have a bias towards Noctua, although I'm colorblind, so that may help :)

A GTX 980 would still be my choice. You don't need an overly expensive power supply either. An Evga 750w B2 would be plenty. MX100's from crucial are good SSD's and normally a decent amount less. The NZXT Havik 140 isn't a bad cooler either.

A GTX 970 would be better hands down

When you overclock, you will be able to use faster RAM effectively. Make sure that the RAM you buy will be the best you need after overclocking. It won't matter if it's underused a bit before then. RAM is pretty much a commodity, so anything with the right specs, but if you plan an aftermarket cooler, make sure that your RAM does not impinge upon cooler mounting space. Some brands have honking big cooling fins on RAM, the sort that get in the way of other tings.
