I changed my cpu fan recently to be quiet "Shadow Rock Slim" and my cpu temp is staying higher than 70 degrees celsius on idle , what should i do? Please help.
My cpu is Intel Core i5 2320

If those temps are under full load (like stress test with Prime95 or Intel burn test), you're all good. But if those are with normal usage like browsing, then we need to investigate further.

Those temps are on idle

Download SpeedFan and check the heatsink's fan speed. 70C+ on idle is TOO HIGH. I'd immediately re-apply the thermal compound using pea-sized amount method.

I agree. It sounds like the heatsink isn't seated properly on your CPU.

I just reapplied thermal compound using pea-sized amount method and cpu is still overheating

I'm not exactly sure what Shadow Rock Slim is. I'm at work so I can't search too far on the web. Is this a setting? If so, can you change it back to whatever was working before? If it's a new fan, could you switch it back to the one you used before that didn't give you problems? Something doesn't seem right and I'm curious as to what speeds your fan(s) are running at. Have your voltages changed?

Just a quick question - your heatsink isn't filled with dust, is it? I've had a CPU overheat over time from accumulation of dust.

Shadow Rock Slim is a heatsink. And I'm suspecting bad readings, where do you derive the temps from?

The previous fan that i used was just basic Intel fan and i changed because i had a problem like this one . My fan is running at ~1500 RPM. Heatsink is clean

What software are you using to display temps, have you tried installing another software to double check?

Im using speed fan and i double checked it with HWMonitor

Use HWinfo, HWmonitor is inconsistent. But anyways, the temps seem quite hot. Run a HD video via Youtube and observe the temps.

It's about ~74

What is the ambient temp? What MoBo and case? What PSU?

Try removing the side panel of case, and see if that eases up the temps.

I removed it and still no changes

The Slim , is similar to the cooling of a 212 , you should be getting better temps if it's installed correctly.

Can you tell me more about installation problems
