Tried formatting the laptop and creating partitions in the format menu, but it showed random errors including creating new drives;
My sole purpose was to create a primary drive and another logical drive and thats it.
But it either makes them system/reserved or primary drives which is something i don't want.
I googled it and found that it can be done in disk management system in control panel, but it didn't work.
Then i tried partition wizard home edition, but the modify> set as logical option was grayed out.

If all you want to do is create two logical drives on a single physical disk, you should be able to do this in Disk Management. When you say "it didn't work", how exactly?

What you need to do is shrink the existing C:\ drive to create unallocated space. Then, you format this space and assign it a drive letter.

When booting off of the Win 7 DVD when you get to the place where it asks "where do you want to install windows to" click on advanced and delete your partition. repartition the drive, then depending on the size of your drive and how big you want the second drive use half or what you want for select block size. install windows then do the disk management thing.
