Hay guys, long time reader first time poster and im in a bit of a pickle arghhh.... I recently bought a R9 280x 3GB 384BIT graphics card for a real good price but after hours of struggling to get the card to boot iv discovered through the rather insightful forum that my motherboard is not supported I basically have a 1st gen i5 1156 Sock Intel motherboard.

Now after phoning all over my city iv realized I cant get 1156 sock boards anymore but i have found some online but more specifically im looking at the GigaByte GA-H55M-D2H, the Radeon website gives it a performance rating of 5.5 out of 10 but more importantly its compatible or so they say, basically i would like to know what you guys think? should i go ahead with the deal or do you maybe foresee any conflicts in brand maybe?

I just need some guidance as i cannot afford any 4th gen components at the moment.

many thanks! Brad

There is no way a 1156 socket board would not work with an R9 280x unless there is some strange bug on the specific board.

What exact board is it?
Have you tried updating its BIOS?
What power supply do you have?

Hi there thanks for the speedy reply basically my board is a Intel DP55WB i have gone to the Intel wesite for this board and updated my BIOS to the latest version on the site which is June 2012, I have a 500Watt True PSU i have also used a mates 600Watt and i get the same error it freezes/hangs on the boot menu and there is an error says 5A in the corner.

I read through the forum and someone had the same issue and deducted it was board compatibility as they never got it solved... but now i have hope lol hope this info helps?
