Hello

I am trying to upgrade my memory. I purchases 8GB DDR 3 1066mhz Link. After installing it the computer turned on, fans started, but there was no system beeps or display and after 10-20seconds it turned off and on again, stuck in this loop. I tried using 1 stick in each slot with the same result. I had to put my old 3gb DDR2 333mhz ram back in and it ran fine.

My thoughts are this ram is not compatible with my motherboard, but from what i have read on the description of the ram and the gigabyte info on my motherboard it should work.

I was going to update the bios as I heard others have had success doing so, but after checking my mb is on the only version available.

Can anyone see something Im overlooking, or anything I could try to make this work? or is it just not compatible?

Spec:
Gigabyte Ga-G41m Combo rev1.4. Gigabyte site link
Intel Q6600 2.4
Geforce 9600GT
600W Power Supply

Hi, Which DDR3 ram are you trying to use and what size modules are they? Also are you using a 32 or 64 bit operating system?

That's what I was afraid of. I looked at the Qualified Vendors list on Gigabyte's page for that motherboard and it looks like it only supports sticks up to 2Gbs per stick. It supports up to 8Gbs of ram but only in 2Gb sticks.

Ty for the reply. I just dont understand. The board supports up to 8GB max. With 2 DDR2 and 2 DDR3 slots this can only be achieved with 2 sticks. As you cant run DDR2 and DDR3 together.

I'm just going by the QVL and it doesn't list any 4Gb modules so I figure that's the issue.
