Lapping only the heatsink?. Watch photos.

Hi

a few day ago I make a post here about high temps on my FX 8320.

Yesterday I decided to re install all again with MX 4. But when I dismounted the heatsink I found this:

I tried to remove the marks with Isoprophile alcohol and It won`t come off.

What may be the cause of this?

Now I wonder if I should lapp the heatsink to get a better contact surface. I won`t lapp my FX.

Lapping only the heatsink could be worst than leaving it like the photo?

please help me with this.

The purpose of lapping is to make the heatsink and CPU surfaces both flat, if you only lap the heatsink you have accomplished nothing, the top of the CPU is still curved and you will still have a limited contact area. The purpose of thermal paste is to help deal with the curves so you don't need to lap the CPU and heatsink to get good performance.

As was said above though, stock heatsinks aren't good, no effort should be put into attempting to improve it.

but its ok to lap a heatsink but ONLY the heatsink?

or its a mistake to do that?

Is not even recommended to remove the stain that you can see in the photo?

That is a burn mark from previous bad install of heatsink you think?
