Right now I'm using a Intel i7 2600 and thought of upgrading to the Intel i7-2700K Sandy Bridge.
but it's a difference from 3.40 to 3.50. (and 2700K seems to be the maximum i can upgrade to)

So is it worth upgrading at all? or does it depend on something else?

I reported my double post (dang razer mouse keeps double clicking)

More about : cpu upgrade worth

The main difference is not of stock speeds, but of the fact that 2700k is OCable and can thus OC to 4.5GHz or higher with suitable MoBo and cooler. But right now, 2600 is plenty for gaming/ rendering. What is the purpose for upgrade and what is the MoBo?

The advantage of the K is that you can overclock it to north of 4.0.
That is assuming you have an overclockable motherboard with a Z77 based motherboard.

Otherwise, there will be little difference.

Not worth the upgrade even with OC on the 2700K they will have almost identical performance in gaming for example since both can handle the most powerful GPU's.

My Motherboard is a Pegatron IPISB-CH2 (Chicago)

I'm not a Computer Genius, but the main purpose is because my computer is getting massive problems with freezing and a bunch of audio lags trough out the day, which happens when i'm loading something or just opening a program, though it doesn't happen all the time, it's still quite annoying.

But then again, one of the fan blades broke on my Nvidia GTX 550ti.

I'm not sure, but i would spend money on anything that could speed it up.

OEM MoBos don't support OCing, so you're not getting any better with 2700k. Drop the idea, CPU is not responsible for lag, its pretty much powerful. Have you scanned for viruses? Have you used CCleaner? Have you seen what items startup via msconfig? There are so many options to eliminate before taking this non-profitable move.

You can instead try at your software side. Like re-installing OS, or getting a SSD.

That motherboard uses a H67 chipset.
There is no useful cpu upgrade for you.

First of all, I would not spend too much fixing that pc.
If your GTX550ti has a broken fan blade, then perhaps it is overheating and causing your problems.
Run GPU-Z to check that out.

Is it possible that you have accumulated dust in the cpu cooler, causing that to heat up?

Run memtest86+ to check out your ram. You should get NO errors for a full pass.

A GTX550ti needs a decent 400w psu. Pre built pc's come with minimal and cheap psu's. Possibly your's is deteriorating.
What is the psu you have?

Give it a cleaning and depending on PSU upgrade GPU.

Agree with the other replies, your best option is to give the system a little TLC, it should be fast enough for most uses without a CPU upgrade (although that GTX550 is getting on a bit for gaming ;)  ).
If it's never been cleaned out, now's probably the time so...
Using a soft 1/4" paintbrush, gently clean the CPU cooler fins and fan, if the deposits are stubborn, swap for a toothbrush or cotton bud as required, be careful not to move the cooler itself and blow/shake the stuff out, don't use a home vacuum cleaner to remove it from the case.
Same for the graphics card, although you'll probably need to use a can of compressed air (ask at your local computer store, they'll know what you're after) unless you want to strip the cooler off it for cleaning.
Remove the card and go outside. Use the air and blow backwards-towards the fan/s not through it/them. Use a toothbrush or cotton bud to clean the fan blades. Watch your eyes! Either look away or wear some sort of eye protection. I mean it, this stuff has better accuracy than a snipers rifle and it WILL go for your eyes.
Google 'HDD cleanup', 'hard drive maintenance' or similar this will give you a guide on how to clean up the hard drive.
Do NOT download, install or, God forbid, use any of the software and 'services' the above search will turn up, just go for Youtube vids or similar.
While Windows has its own HDD maintenance tools I like to have Ccleaner on my system BTW, it'll do most things you'll need to do apart from defragmenting the disc, which should be the last thing you do.
