System: HP Pavilion Windows 7 64-bit
Problem: Wireless printer (EPSON WP-4350) stopped working after malware removal. Works in USB mode.
Document showed in printer queue but showed error.
Steps taken:
1) Removed Epson software and tried re-install. Test document would not print.
2) Using device and printer add printer function shows driver installed but then printer installation failed. Downloaded latest Epson drivers, no difference
3) Checked printer connectivity to the network. Ping OK. 2 other computers on the wireless network can install and the printer works so it seems like my laptop.
4) Tried an install w/ virus checker and firewall disabled. Same result.
5) Epson support went through their checklist and said call Microsoft.
6) Microsoft wanted $99.00 so I bailed.
7) Went to run restore point but only a one day old restore point was available.
8) Ran Windows Defender offline bootable and found 5 or 6 severe items. Removed and got a clean screen. Printer would not install.
9) Ran SFC. Found no issues.
10) Re-installed previous system image from before problem. Still will not install from device and printer add printer function.
Any help appreciated.

Did you use malwarebytes to remove the virus or just a useless microsoft defender software?

I think I used malwarebytes prior to problem, AVG, defender, spybot, Ccleaner.

Go to devices and printers, right click on that printer and select printer properties, go to ports tab, add a tcp/ip port with the the IP address of the printer and select that as the port.

printer properties does not show a ports tab. shows "general- hardware-web services" web services tab shows Device info, web page w/ IP address. Troubleshooting Information section show standard connection, s/n, MAC addr, Unique identifier and IP address.
