I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on my build, (http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/hXL76h) And I just was wondering if I should be getting the MSI (Gaming edition 970) or Asus Strix 970, as I've heard great things about both. Only reason I haven't bought yet is because I'm waiting for the MSI one to come in stock, which is the one I'm dedicated to right now, but I just wanted to make sure.. Just in case. Thanks guys.

Both will be good cards, I lean to the Asus, many talk negative about the low Pre-OC, but I've yet to run into any Asus GPUs that didn't OC extremely well, I just got the 980 Strix in this afternoon and will be putting it into my Z97 (in sig), the 290X Matrix will move to the Z87 Hero, and the 780s my son is picking up tomorrow, he's been getting into some heavy video and imaging work

Both are very silent cards, the STRIX will turn off it's fans when it's idle, but seriously who can hear the gpu anyway when it's idle? ;)
ASUS are known to put some nice components in their PCB's, things like the VRAM are from a good quality brand etc. Though ASUS's cards have the downside of almost always be one of the slowest factory overclocked cards, MSI on the other hand gives you a nice boost from stock performance and overclocking on the MSI will also go further than overclocking on the ASUS.

So ASUS gives you the quality, MSI, the performance and high overclocks (overclocking the ASUS should be pretty good too)

I would say that your wait for the MSI to come in stock is a good choice, i also weighted the differences because i considered upgrading for this card myself, i was also stuck between the MSI and ASUS (if i was going to go through with the upgrade), i also ended up with the MSI on top (though never bought any of them).

Another thing you can consider is to get a slightly more expensive motherboard that has a better on-board audio (and some extra features), like (from Asus) the Sabertooth or Maximus Ranger, or if you like the gold, the Z97-Pro. All of them have a much better on-board audio card which you're gonna notice if you have a good headphone or speaker system. Also maybe get a 250gb SSD if it's not too expensive, so you can put more games on the SSD.

Like maxtex i also would suggest another mobo for gaming, though i didn't mention it because that's not really what you're asking about, and the asus one is a good board too.
The MSI Z97 GAMING 5 costs a little less/the same, as the ASUS board, though the MSI is better for overclocking and has MSI's gaming networking, and a built-in sound card that will make a difference in headsets/multi-speaker setups, like maxtex also mentioned.
I would suggest going for this if you're using this mainly as a gaming rig.

Though i think the 128gb ssd is fine, but i would probably get a Western Digital 2TB Blue HDD instead of that 1TB, depends on your game library but i've used 1TB+ with my 100 steam games, my brother runs on a single 1TB and he just filled it all up not so long ago (also has 100+ steam games).
The 2TB isn't double the price either, so you'll get a better price per GB. ;)

I'm looking for a mobo with at least 6 fan headers, if you know one that has one, i'll switch it over.
