Hello all. I've been lurking around here for quite a while looking for answers. Classic question though between these cpus.

*still a technoob and this is my 1st build
*uses will be gaming (fps) and video editing (sony vegas, AE, etc). 50:50 ratio
*both cpus priced the same here so $$ wont be an issue.

How does the 8core really affect my editing? Is it just on rendering time or overall performance?

Specs (yes, original build is on intel side. Please do suggest anything.)

Cpu: ...
Mobo: asus b85 pro gamer
Gpu: sapphire r9 270x toxic
Ram: gskill ripjaws 8gb (2x4)
Storage: 1tb seagate 7200rpm (getting 120 ssd later)
Psu: corsair vs550
Case: corsair 200r

Thanks in advance.

Gaming : Both will do similar however in most cases the i5 will take the lead and has more potential available , its not bad in video editing but its slower than the 8320 in most cases . Bare in mind it will run cooler and consume less power also has a wide variety of upgrades available .

Editing : The 8320 is about 10% faster in rendering and is better in handling multitasking however since the i5 is a quad core CPU you shouldn't be running into such an issue and the difference isn't that noticeable. Still the 8320 is better in that category and will beat the i5 in most cases especially in sony vegas.

Overall :If I were you , I'd get the i5-4460 with a H97 Motherboard in order to be able to upgrade later on to broadwell if I had the money or If I weren't impressed with the performance .

The 8320 is a good CPU but the upgrades available at hand are very limited and the line of CPUs above it aren't any better . However its good for productivity and if you plan on investing lots of time editing then it will be a better option.

N.B : The Corsair VS series' PSU isn't the best quality and I'd suggest something from XFX , seasonic , Antec or EVGA.
