No, 650w would do just fine. I wouldn't recommend going any lower than that with the R9 290.

The reason I picked the SuperNOVA NEX is that it's cheaper than most 650w units, while being of decent quality.

The PSU is a Tier 3 unit, though. i wouldn`t get it. the B2 unit is way better.

I just looked at the list, the Tier 3 one doesn't mention the NEX part. I assumed the Tier 2B one is the PSU I picked.
