Updated XP machine to SP3 and now my motherboard is acting up

I inherited an old Windows XP machine that was on Service Pack 2. After installing Service Pack 3, my 2nd harddrive (that stores just media) and DVDRom drive are no longer recognized by the system. I verified they were still getting power and I swapped out the IDE ribbon for two others to see if the cable had died, but still I can't see them. The IDE cable was linking first to the HDD and then finally on the DVDRom.

Has anyone heard of something like this happening when after installing a Service Pack? I have to assume the IDE connection on the motherboard is what is causing the issue since both the HDD and DVDRom drive work fine on other systems. I can't believe it's just a coincidence.
