Has the GPU any connection to the screen size?

Hello,
I'm planning to buy a new comp with a Radeon 290X or a GTX 970 GPU, and I'm considering 23"-27" screens. Are these cards an overkill for the small screens? Are larger screens are causing the GPU more effort (because the resolution is higher) ?
In short, is there any optimal display size for these cards ?

Thanks

Resolution has nothing to do with screen size. They do not scale 1080p is 1080p on a 27 inch screen or a 19 inch screen. However, 1080p looks best on a 24-25 inch screen. The density is optimal at those sizes. The 970 is the better card between the 2. No more effort is required at diffrent screen sizes, only higher resolutions.

The only difference you will notice on the performance of these powerful graphics cards is if you decide to use more than one display. Otherwise, these cards have more than enough power to handle 1 screen. Screen size makes no difference as stated above, 1080p is 1080p period.
