Hi all. I have an Alienware m14x r1 running windows 7 home premium. It's been working fine for 2/3 years now, with no problems whatsoever.
Tonight, I went for a shower, came back to my laptop and everything seemed fine. The only other being in the house at the time was my cat.
I logged in to my account, fine. Everything is great until I start typing to a friend on facebook chat and my keyboard starts to malfunction. The keys started pressing other keys and sometimes multiple keys were pressed at once when only pressing one key. For example, pressing the V key pressed B and N.
I'm now at the stage where I restarted my PC hoping for a fix, and now i'm stuck on the account selection screen as my keyboard has become 99% unresponsive.
The keys that work are:
S Key: It enables me to tab between the different restart, shut down, hibernate, sleep options in the bottom right.
Crtl+U allows me to type in the password box.
F2 and F12 work.
W key works but seemingly does nothing at all.
When plugging in an external, I was able to navigate the boot menu and system setup menus, but once I restarted to load windows the keyboard becomes unresponsive again, with only the Arrow Keys working on the external and the previously mentioned keys working on both the external keyboard and the laptop.
The keys still light up, the touch pad still works and the USB ports still work.
I tried to run a Diagnostic from the boot menu but it requires me to press Y/N and that's impossible with either keyboard.
Can ANYONE help me fix this.
I'm unable to remove my battery as the Alienware m14x is a solid machine and the battery is inside seemingly un-removable casing. (It can be removed, but i'm not sure how i'd go about it, or put it back on.).
I've got a fair amount of knowledge with IT and computers, but this has fully stumped me. I'm unable to format due to the lack of my ENTER key and the computer is unable to boot so I can't system restore.
ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!
Thanks in advance. I hope I can get this fixed, I can't afford for it to be looked at, pulled apart and prodded at.
