Building A Gaming PC for Christmas need help

okay so im attempting to build a gaming pc for myself i would like it to be 800-850 i have a good keyboard and mouse so i dont need one of those i need a monitor though and i already have a OS windows 7 ultimate 64 bit i would like to run new games at a high quailty ultra would be nice but i would like atleast high quality 60 FPS preferred this is my first time doing this so if you could send me a link to pc part builder with the parts already there i would appreciate it thansk for the help

The Xeon is Hyper-Threaded while the i5 is not.

A GTX 770 paired with an i5 would game better compared to an i7/Xeon paired with a R9 280.

The only advantages the 770 offers over the 280 is:
Higher clock speed
Higher VRAM clock speed
Higher texture rate
Higher pixel rate

There isn't a big difference between an i5 vs an i7 for gaming. Therefore he should get an i5 with a more powerful graphics card. The advantages you mentioned make a difference. The GTX 770 is a class above the R9 280 and GTX 760.

The clock speed doesn't matter as much as the texture/pixel rate, but they are important. The GTX 770 is a better card hands down.

I wouldn't go that far as the 280 has:
More VRAM
Wider memory bus
More shading units
More FLOPs

I have the 7950 which is the same as the R9 280 and I can say for a fact that the 770 is more powerful. Look at any fps benchmark and you can see that the 770 is a faster card.

The 280 isn't the same card as the 7950, just because it's a rebranded 7950. AMD boosted some specs.

But besides that point the GTX 770 is a tier above the R9 280. A fair comparison would be the 280x vs the GTX 770.
