Hey all,

I currently have a Radeon HD 7950 which I think is starting to go. I was wondering what a good upgrade would be with similar or better performance. I'm not looking to break the bank here, so at or under $200 would be best. Either Nvidia or AMD works for me, but my last two have been amd cards (is one brand better than the other?). Thanks for the help.

R9 280 is basically a rebadged HD 7950 Boost. If your card fails and your budget is $200 max that's the best way to get similar (or slightly better depending on how its clocked by the manufacturer) performance and retain the same 3GB frame buffer you already have.
How old is the card? Most carry a 2 year warranty or more, look for the invoice and check, I see no reason to spend money when you can RMA the card instead.
What do you mean by 'starting to go'? If the card is a year or so old it may just be in need of a clean, dust and animal fur can very quickly clog the small gaps between fins in a modern computer heatsink which will cause rapid overheating: run the GPUZ render test (click on the blue question mark next to the PCI-E info box), then open the sensors tab so you can monitor the temperatures or, if you're feeling a little more adventurous, download and run the Furmark burn in.
Terminate either test at 90C!
