Hello all, I am currently wondering what to buy, I am looking currently at a HX 850w which is $130 bucks on Newegg, OR should I go for a 1000w, which I have looked and the EVGA G2 would be the best for 1000w going at a price of $175.

But my main question here is, with the rig posted below... Should a 850w be sufficient? Or do I need to shell out the extra 45 bucks to get a 1000w?

My Rig:
R9 290 Vapor-X Crossfire,
FX 8350, OC'd too 4.8.
CPU cooler: H100i
1 SSD, 1 HDD, 8 Fans(Including Rad fans)

For a system using two Radeon R9 290 graphics cards in 2-way CrossFireX mode a minimum of a 850 Watt or greater system power supply is recommended. The power supply should also have a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 65 Amps or greater and have at least two 6-pin and two 8-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

Total Power Supply Wattage is NOT the crucial factor in power supply selection!!! Sufficient Total Combined Continuous Power/Current Available on the +12V Rail(s) rated at 45°C - 50°C ambient temperature, is the most critical factor...

Overclocking of the CPU and/or GPU(s) may require an additional increase to the maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current ratings, recommended above, to meet the increase in power required for the overclock. The additional amount required will depend on the magnitude of the overclock being attempted.

To handle the running of FurMark with overclocked GPUs you should be looking at a PSU with at least a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 68 Amps or greater.

Hopefully, that answers your question. If you'd like to see the entire thread, not all of which pertains directly to your question, you can find it here:

The short answer is, 850w using a good Tier 1, 2A or 2B PSU is plenty.

Thank you greatly, Looked at that thread. Answered my question completely. :)

I will take a look at the PSU tier list on this forum.

Thanks for the help!
