a friend of mine hasn't done any upgrades in like 9 years or something.. and he asked me to help him with a good enough gaming build...

so this is what i have so far from local stores...

Gigabyte GA-Z87X-D3H
Intel Core I5-4590 Haswell 3.3GHz 6M
G.skill RipjawsX 8GB
SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X R9 280X 3GB GDDR5 OC
SeaSonic M12II Bronze 620W 80 PLUS PSU

if you guys have any advice, or if something doesn't fit please let me know...

edit: considering the fact that he would probably never overclock the cpu, and some great suggestions from you guys this is what i'm thinking now...

Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H
Intel Core I5-4690 Haswell 3.5GHz
G.skill RipjawsX 8GB
SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X R9 280X 3GB GDDR5 OC
SeaSonic M12II Bronze 620W 80 PLUS PSU

Yes since you will use non-K Intel CPU it not worth to get Z87 chipset motherboard. Get the H97 will be allright. Also you can get better CPU that is i5-4690 3.5GHz.

why are you getting a Z87 motherboard?

either - get a Z97 if you plan to overclock and get a K version of the CPU
get H97 and stick with the current CPU.

no reason to get a x87 chip unless it is dead cheap!
