I inherited an old Windows XP machine that was on Service Pack 2. After installing Service Pack 3, my 2nd harddrive (that stores just media) and DVDRom drive are no longer recognized by the BIOS. I verified they were still getting power and I swapped out the IDE ribbon for two others to see if the cable had died, but still I can't see them. I also plugged the HDD into another PC and was able to access it no problem. The IDE ribbon was linking first to the HDD and then finally on the DVDRom.
Has anyone heard of something like this happening when after installing a Service Pack? I have to assume the IDE connection on the motherboard is what is causing the issue since both the HDD and DVDRom drive work fine on other systems but I have heard that is very rare.
What are my options moving forward? I could get an IDE-to-SATA adapter for the HDD but that still leaves my DVDRom unavailable. Plus, I would continue to get a Disk Boot Failure every time I turn on the machine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
