Game @ 1080 on a 7970 should I upgrade to a 970?

I play mostly newer FPS, COD4 and such. Will the upgrade be woth the 330 bucks?
The machine I'm speaking of is my sons.

absolutely not , the HD 7970 still a High-end graphics card and can be compared to GTX 770 from nividia, so its like upgrading from gtx 770 to GTX 970 .. not worth it and won't be a huge upgrade.

Also can you provide full specs of your sons system? An upgrade my not be really required, but nice...;)
As a guide I've just swapped my long suffering and much modded HD7950 for a GTX970 and the difference was night and day, but my system has a massively powerful CPU to keep it fed with data.

Well it has a FX 6300 OCed to locked 4.2 ghz on a Gigabyte UD3 990 FX MB so no problems in the cpu department. 8 gigs of 1600 cl9 mem. It's a pretty robust system. Just not Sure if it's pushing 1080p as effectively as it could with a 7970 instead of a newer 970.
