Hi i have a question about overclocking. Today i decided to over clock my Intel Core 2 quad processor Q9550. I went with a small overclock from 2.83 to 3.4GHz. I followed the processors manual to overclock it. After i have done everything i saved the settings and my computer started to reboot.

My computer turned off once, went back on for a few seconds and turned off and on again. Everything was working fine but my overclock has disappeared somwhere. Not sure what happend there and why any ideas?

Every processor yields different results in overclocking due to the silicon manufacturing process. It takes time to find a stable overclock and I would suggest reading up on it here: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2421233,00.asp

Again, start from the base clock. Test that you are stable under stress at the default clock speed, then continue to raise the multiplier. If the system fails for any reason, increase the voltage a bit and be careful with the voltage as this is the main cause for CPU degradation. Always test thoroughly as a processor might survive one test but not the other. Feel free to ask any questions you might still have.
