I'm planning to buy a graphic card under Rs. 5000 and I was primed to go for R7 240 but now the price of GT 640 is nearly the same as R7 240. So, I'm kinda confused between the 2 choices and don't know which one is better.

My Config :
* GigaByte G41M Combo (Rev 2.0) with 1 x PCIe 2.1 slot.
* Intel Core Duo E7200 2.53 GHz
* 4GB DDR3 RAM
* Corsair CX430 430 Watts PSU
* 160GB Internal HDD + 1TB WD Ultra External

I know R7 240 is supported by my PC but I have no idea about GT 640's compatibility and performance with my MoBo.

I request you to please answer these questions for Zotac Nvidia GT 640 1GB GDDR5 :
1. Is the graphic card supported by my motherboard and will it be detected/run on my pc?
2. Will the graphic card bottleneck my PC with this config or is it safe?
3. Is this graphic card prone to heating and is it manageable?
4. How much power does GT 640 1GB GDDR5 consume?
5. Is my Corsair 430W PSU enough to power this graphic card and other components of my pc?

Please answer all these questions for me as I'm very confused and I need to know these things before choosing between them.

I wish to play low-medium games smoothly without any heating or damage to my motherboard or other components.

P.S : I asked the same question regarding R7 240 but now I want to know about GT 640 before I order one of them.

Solution

There will hardly be a bottleneck here. Even if there would be a bottleneck from CPU...

So, should I go with the R7 240 1GB DDR5? I want to play GTA5, Call Of Duty Black Ops 2 and other such games at low-medium settings. Will it run?

Yeah but I worry my CPU will bottleneck from GT 640, let alone GT 730. I can't go beyond Rs. 5500, so please suggest which one the 3 (R7 240 1 GB DDR5 or GT 640 1 GB DDR5 or GT 730 1 GB DDR5) is better.

P.S : I heard GT 640 draws 65 W power at full load, so I'm a little bit worried as my PSU is CX430 430 Watts only and if it can handle GT 640 or GT 730.

There will hardly be a bottleneck here. Even if there would be a bottleneck from CPU, it can be covered by your GPU. Stick with GT 730 here. Your PSU is sufficient for this GPU.
